Stockholm University

Stockholm University, founded in 1878, is the region’s centre for higher education and research in the humanities, law, sciences and social sciences. With its 39 000 students and 5 600 employees, Stockholm University is one of the largest universities in Sweden and one of the largest employers in the capital. At present, there are about 75 departments/centres at the university, organised within four faculties: the faculties of the humanities, law, sciences and social sciences.

The research is of high quality across a broad range of areas, enabling researchers at the university to collaborate in a number of interdisciplinary projects. Many research groups are engaged at the cutting edge of contemporary research, for example in linguistics, commercial law, climate and environmental research and psychology. Four researchers from the university have received the Nobel Prize in chemistry and one has received the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel.

Besides cooperation with foreign universities and research departments, Stockholm University also cooperates with organisations, authorities, companies and individuals outside the university. The university is a place where new theory, practice and different ways of thinking meet and create the ideas, companies and activities of the future.

The university is situated in the middle of the first national city park in the world and is characterised by beautiful nature, unique architecture and contemporary art.
