Stockholm Life Solna-Stockholm

The new name for life science activities in the Karolinska/Norra Station area – where the Cities of Stockholm and Solna meet – is Stockholm Life Solna-Stockholm.  This name is a way to collectively describe the outstanding life science activities in the area. Through a common name and brand, the area's collective strengths will be showcased. Stockholm Life Solna-Stockholm will be an internationally known brand that represents excellence and contributes to attracting start-ups, investments and competence to this area. The vision is that by 2025, Stockholm Life Solna-Stockholm will be counted among the world’s best.

Within a distance of 1500 meters you will find one of Europe’s largest medical universities, Karolinska Institutet; Sweden's largest science faculty, Stockholm University; and Sweden's largest technical university, Royal Institute of Technology. Together with the country's leading business school, Stockholm School of Economics, these institutions feature more than 70,000 students and more than 7,000 scientists

A completely new, cutting edge university hospital, New Karolinska Solna, is now being built in the area to meet the demands of future health care and research. Cooperation between healthcare, research and education will be strengthened so that the new university hospital will create stronger and more effective medical care for the future.

Stockholm Life Solna-Stockholm also comprises several international research collaborations exemplified by the Science for Life Laboratory, SciLife Lab, a new elite lab in large-scale sequencing founded by the universities in the area and Uppsala University.

The area currently hosts several companies operating within life science, of which around 50 are in Karolinska Institutet Science Park AB, and there is a continuous influx of life science companies.

Together with planned housing, restaurants, cafés, schools and more, the area will be a new, vibrant part of the city infused with life science, in what was an underdeveloped section of Stockholm and Solna. And the new area will have its very own name. Stockholm Life Solna-Stockholm is uniquely positioned through its proximity to the successful ICT cluster in Kista, two international airports, a national park and Stockholm city centre.
